SEASON)
Bullseye Outfitters in Trout Creek, Montana |

Our 2007 rifle season has come to a close. Our Elk herds
are at an all time high and it is showing in our hunters'
successes. It is easy to sit and talk about the good old
days of hunting, but the truth is the good old days are
right now. Game herds are always going up and down in
different areas. Right now our area is experiencing that
upswing. If a person wants to go on a hunt and have a good
chance of getting quality elk and deer, we have it here.
We have some of our 2008 hunts booked
but still have good dates available. Give us a call and we
can set up a quality hunt for you.

The Trout Creek area provides
an awe inspiring setting for some amazing hunts. In
all the years we have hunted here, no two hunting
experiences are the same. We know how thrilling it
is to be staring at a trophy animal, ready to pull
the trigger, so we've tried to re-create a few of
our more recent hunts for you.

Darryl
Gerow - Dupont Washington
Nov
29, 07
Darryl Gerow of Dupont Washington just arrived back to the
US after a mission over in Afghanistan. He was in great
shape and ready to get some piece and quiet in the
mountains. The hunting was great with a little fresh snow
on the ground. It was Thanksgiving Day when Darrell and his
guide Jerry were watching a brush field opening when it got
daylight. As the darkness faded away elk started appearing
about 200 yards away. Pretty soon a nice 5X5 was visible.
Darrell made a good one shot kill.

The next day
they were packing the meat out to
the four wheeler. After a couple of short trips, Jerry went
back for the last load of meat while Darrell hiked down a
ridge looking for a buck. Darrell didn’t go far before
spotting some does below him. Looking the area over a
little closer he saw a nice buck come walking out. One
glance and he knew it was a shooter. Once again one shot
and Darrell had his tags filled. Two nice animals for a
well deserving man. Congratulations.

Denise Raue - Clarkston,MI
Denise Raue of
Clarkston Michigan has hunted with us for many years. This
year he made the trip with his good friend Larry Malice.
The hunting was good when they were here and it was just a
matter of time and getting out into the mountains to take it
all in.
Denise was hunting with our
guide Jerry and they had been into game every day.
Somewhere in the midway point of the hunt they worked their
way into the middle of the herd of elk and this nice bull
presented a good shot. Denise made the most of it and he
tagged his bull. We always look forward to Denise hunting
with us and hope to see him down the road.

Glen & Mark Deems - Elkridge, MD
On the first
day of Glenn and Mark’s hunt, their guide took them into the
high country. A large herd had been spotted earlier in the
area and there were several bulls still rutting. A heavy
fog had set in so visibility was down to just a few feet. A
couple of bulls were bugling but couldn’t be seen. On the
third morning the fog cleared and the hunters were back for
a look. Glenn was posted in an opening and Mark and his
guide went around the ridge to the next opening. They were
greeted by a herd of 40 elk with 5 legal bulls. The largest
bull was 500 yards out and the second biggest was 400. Mark
decided to go for the 400 yard shot. The first bullet
struck the bull in the head and he was done.

No bulls
showed up for Glenn that day so we went back two days
later. Elk were spotted just as first light was appearing.
A 15 minute stalk put Glenn within 100 yards of a nice six
point. Glenn connected and the brothers took home two nice
6X6 bulls.

Jeff LaBruzzy -
Clarkston, MI
Jeff started
his hunt in the high country with his guide Jerry leading
the way. Jerry spotted a bull bedded down so they decided
to get in a good position and wait for the bull to stand
up. It took a while and the bull decided it was time to
check on his cows. It was Jeff’s first time elk hunting and
sometimes bull fever can get a guy. A few shots later and
the bull walked into the timber never to be seen again.
They decided they needed to take a look for blood and, on
the way over to the elk, a big non-typical mule deer
appeared. Jeff’s day turned from bad to worse. He missed
the buck also. After a couple days, Jerry decided to go
back and see if the bull or buck were back. Neither one
showed up but another bull was in a clearing. Jeff took
careful aim and made his shot count. Jeff had so much fun
he is booking back for round two.

Jerry Eichert - Trout
Creek, MT
When hunting
and guiding gets into your blood you have a hard time
setting on a couch in hunting season. Our guide Jerry had a
couple days off so he decided to scout a new area he had
been looking at. He took a hunting buddy and headed into
some of the more rugged county we have. Time was limited so
they decided they would just take deer and not elk. As soon
as they got into the area they were going to they started
seeing game. Elk and mule deer seemed to be everywhere.
The each picked out a mule deer buck and enjoyed watching
the bulls.

Jim Cunningham - Lakeland,
FL
Nov 27, 07
Jim Cunningham
of Lakeland Florida had waited a lifetime to go on the elk
hunt he had dreamed about as a young man. At 63 Jim decided
to book a hunt and see about fulfilling his dream. Jim
worked hard at getting in shape, so that when he arrived
here he would be in the best possible shape he could get in.
Opening day
found Jim in the high country setting in a blind we had
build years previous, waiting for a bull elk to appear.
With fog coming in and out it didn’t look good. That is
until about 9:45, when the fog lifted just enough to see a
bull down below. Jim shot and the bull took off running.
After looking the track over with this guide it appeared to
be a clean miss.
The fog was in
most of the day, so it wasn’t the best for spotting any
elk. Persistence prevailed, however, and later in the
afternoon as Jim and his guide hiked out a ridge, they
spotted a bull feeding 200 yards below them. The bull was
unaware of their presence, so Jim took his time and got a
good rest over a backpack. One shot from his 300 short Mag
was all it took; the bull went down within 20 yards.
Needless to
say Jim was very happy. He had just made good on a nice 5X5
bull on the first day.
Congratulations Jim!

Larry Malace & Son
Larry - Clarkston, MI
Larry has
hunted with us for several years. He had always talked
about bringing his son on a hunt when he turned 14.
This year was the year, so young Larry came with his Dad.
We had some bucks on the ranch so the first evening of the
hunt we had young Larry on a stand. A nice buck showed
up but a little buck fever and things didn’t work out.
The second night a smaller buck showed up and young Larry
made a nice shot and took his first buck.

The next
morning the two Larry’s were glassing a hillside with their
guide when two bulls were spotted. A stalk got the two
hunters within 430 yards. The distance was too far for the
young hunter but Dad was able to take a nice bull with the
first shot. The two Larry’s are booked again for next
year. Young Larry is the star linebacker on his football
team and with his weight training he will be shooting 400
yards next year.

Father & Son Matt & Mike Skop - Boyne Falls, MI
Nov 29, 07
Father and son
team Mike and Matt Skop of Boyne Falls, Michigan arrived at
Bullseye outfitting for the final week of hunting hoping for
an opportunity to bag a nice bull or buck. Mike had hunted
the mountains when he was in his early twenty’s, and wanted
Matt to have an opportunity to experience the mountains of
Northwest Montana like he had.
Snow was
falling when they arrived creating good hunting conditions.
Making it a little easier to read sing and possible do some
tracking. On the first day of their hunt Mike headed up a
logging road then climbed on to a flat ridge looking for
some game. He spotted some cows first but no bulls, so he
continued on a little farther. Later in the morning he
spotted some tracks that appeared to be bulls, after
tracking them for about an hour he could see one standing
behind a tree after deciding it was a legal bull Mike took a
shot but the bullet must have deflected off a piece of
brush. The bulls headed over the hill, at this point Mike
decided to head in the direction of the truck. Next thing
he knew there was a nice whitetail buck walking by him, one
glance at the rack Mike knew he was a shooter. A couple of
shots later and Mike had a beautiful 4X4 whitetail.

After hunting
a few more days Matt’s luck went for the better, hiking out
a logging road with his guide. Right at day light they came
into view of an open cut, and there was a nice bull ding
about 150 yards down the hill with a good rest Matt put a
couple of good shots into the bull before he went down.
About that time another bull that was standing in the brush
took off it was a nice 6X6. He was a beautiful sight as he
ran off. A few minutes later Matt was standing over his
bull a nice 5X6. This was Matt’s first big game animal.
Needless to say he was a happy young man.

Stacy Smith - Trout Creek, MT
Stay was
hunting the ranch when she spotted two small bucks sparring.
Figuring this might bring in a bigger buck she decided to
get ready and see what might show up. She didn’t have to
wait long and a nice 5X5 buck showed up to see what the
smaller backs were fighting over. When in rut the big bucks
forget about staying in the heavy cover and will shop
themselves. This buck walked out at mid-day and Stacy
collected a nice trophy.

Tony Hall - Farmington
Hills,
MI
Nov. 27,
2007
Tony Hall of Farmington Hills, Michigan joined us again for
another hunt. Tony took a nice chocolate bear and a bull elk
on different hunt’s in the last couple of years, so he knew
what to expect when he arrived.
Tony was hoping to connect on a bigger bull than on the last
trip, so we knew we would have to work at it a little
harder. On the second evening Tony and his guide spotted a
herd of elk feeding up on a mountain, so the next morning
before daylight they were working into position to get a
look at the herd within shooting range. Knowing the elk were
close they were on high alert as they moved across the
hillside. Inching over a ridge they spotted some cow’s
feeding toward them, as the herd came toward then below them
4 smaller bulls worked their way into the timber, about that
time they could see horns coming over the ridge. This was
the bull Tony was looking for. Tony made a good shot when
the bull came into full view then another, and his bull was
tumbling down the mountain. This bull got bigger as they
walked up to it. Tony was very pleased with this nice 6X6.
We are looking forward to seeing Tony in the future.
