Dear Friends,
Here at Bullseye Outfitting, our 2008 rifle elk and deer
hunts have ended, and it’s time to fill you in on what went
on and how things panned out.
To start with the weather was very mild. It snowed just a
few times throughout the season and never accumulated more
than 5” in the high country. The elk that we hunt don’t
migrate, so this mild weather didn’t hinder our success at
all. Along with this newsletter you’ll also find a photo
gallery of some of the trophies our clients took home this
past season.
A high percentage of our clients took home a nice trophy
whether it be a bull elk or a nice buck. We hunt both mule
deer and whitetail, and our clients took some of both.

We had a few clients this
year that came out specially looking for trophy deer. Most of our
clients usually come looking for elk and shoot a deer during the
hunt, so with a straight deer hunter we can hunt differently and
“up” the odds on shooting a nice buck.
With no snow on the ground, the elk hunting was about watching the
high country openings or clear cuts at daylight and dark. We made a
good run throughout the season. There’s no better place to be than
the high country as it is a beautiful place to be and we all know
Montana is one of the most beautiful places in the world. With this
in mind it just makes the elk hunting better.
In most cases, when we’re hunting like this, if one bull is spotted
there will be more. As bulls have a tendency to group up this time
of year. This can make for a great hunting experience, as you never
know what you’ll see step out of the brush into the open.
With the elk numbers in our hunting area as high as they have ever
been, a person has a great chance of connecting on a nice bull. And
each day we head for the mountains we know there’s a good chance of
bringing a good bull home.
When the smoke settled at the end of season, and we look back, we
can say we had an excellent season. As always, we had hunters that
have hunted with us before and it is always a good time to rekindle
old friendships and go hunting with someone who has been here
before. And then there are the new friendships made, maybe somebody
who has never hunted out west before or someone who hasn’t hunted
with us before. Either way I’m sure they all had a great experience
and one they will talk about for a long time to come especially
after taking some nice animals home.
A lot of our clients
prepared for their hunt this year, most were in reasonable shape for
hunting in the mountains and they had also spent some time on the
range shooting. It’s always important to shoot straight and get the
animals that you have an opportunity to get. This makes a big
difference in your success and ours. We definitely had straight
shooters this year.
Let’s talk about the future. The animals are going into winter in
great shape. It’s December 5th and they can still stand on the
tallest peaks here. So we should have good recruitment and horn
growth. We also have openings for archery and rifle season for next
year. We do take a limited number of hunters each week to ensure as
good a hunt as possible. It looks as though we’ll have the same crew
on hand next year to ensure another great season.
And as usual we’ll be in Michigan for the deer and turkey
spectacular. Hope to see you there. Remember if you have any
questions feel free to call or email us and we will be happy to
answer any questions you may have. Good Hunting.

Jeff
